Finals greetings from Alumni
Yesterday, I posted on Facebook:
Alumni, it is finals time at Wartburg College and the students are all getting pretty discouraged. Do you have any advice or suggestions or even an uplifting story about how it was all worth it after you graduated?I have gotten the following:
Put yourself on a strict, healthy schedule and remember that working to earn your degree is a gift from yourself to yourself. Also, don't put off eating/hydrating...
make a fort on the 3rd floor of the science center with a bunch of friends and order pizza to Mr. Dr. Birgen's office when you are studying (like around 6 or 7). And stay put until you get kicked out. As long as everyone is serious about actually studying/getting work done, it's a super productive method of studying. And fun!
Study fort! Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H4ebn0BeSM (It helps to listen to it, for real)

2013 Wartburg College Homecoming
This is the 5 year reunion for students from the first Wartburg Scholars class. It was wonderful seeing everyone at the Renaissance Faire. We have students who have served with the Peace Corps and YAGM. We have students working on their Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at Creighton and Computer Science at Michigan. We have students who are working on or have finished Masters degrees in many fields including Mathematics, Social Work and Theology. Finally, we are especially proud of the students who have claimed their calling as educators in school districts in Iowa and Minnesota.

A Great Tuesday
On Tuesday, I learned of two exciting events in the lives of Wartburg Scholars Alumni:
1. Samantha Irvin successfully defended her Masters Thesis in Engineering at Iowa State University.
2. Andrew Reisner will be attending graduate school at the University of Illinois in Computer Science.

Alumnus Speaker
With alumnus Scott Davis who owns QONQR (“conquer”) (http://www.qonqr.com/), a massive multi-player online video game company out of Minneapolis.
Tuesday, April 2, 11:45 to 12:45
Grab lunch in the MENSA and come to the Heritage Ballroom to learn about how Scott launched his company and made it profitable.
Hi all-
I mentioned this event to you in person last week, but here’s the official announcement as we finally nailed down which ballroom we are to use. Scott was a ’96 math/computer science major at Wartburg and now has an MBA in entrepreneurial management. Please let your students know we would love to have them attend. It sounds like Scott is a seasoned speaker and he’ll have a few ppt slides and plenty of time for Q&A.
Let me know if you have any further questions. Please feel free to forward this on to anyone else you may be interested.

Wartburg Scholars Alumni
When students graduate, you know they are going to do great things, but it is wonderful to see your beliefs fulfilled. Jessica graduated from the program in 2008 with a Scholars Project titled Knoxville Summer 1915 by Samuel Barber.
