Get some real world experience in this unique Application and Database Developer job at the EPA facility in Research Triangle Park, N.C. In this multidisciplinary position, you’ll be helping to develop computational tools and solutions for several toxicology projects, with the goal of improving environmental risk and chemical safety. Tasks will include creating new applications and scripts for databases, maintaining existing codes for databases, and developing new databases to create the foundation for a comprehensive chemical sample tracking database used in EPA Computational Toxicology programs.

Qualifications include: A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, computer science/engineering, bioinformatics, biology, statistics, computational biology, math, physics, information sciences, or a related discipline. Necessary skills include education and experience in database concepts and programming, leadership skills, strong written, oral and electronic communication skills, and the ability to work with a team. It is also preferable if the applicant has an advanced proficiency of Microsoft Office Applications and desktop publishing, and experience with Linux operating systems, basic software development, and database development.

The Reactor and Nuclear Systems Division at ORNL is searching for a qualified Research Associate to conduct detailed numerical verification of the various methods used to solve the Boltzmann transport equation. A detailed convergence analysis on the radiation transport models employed in the RNSD code Exnihilo is needed. The successful candidate will help build a library of ‘real scenario’ problems, including reactor analysis, radiation shielding, criticality safety and dosimetry, which can be used to analyze new methods and verify existing methods.

Qualifications: Must have a B.S. degree in math, applied math, engineering or equivalent. Candidate also must have basic computing skills on Linux/POSIX-type systems. Programming skills in python are desired and C/C++ experience is a plus. A background in numerical analysis is advantageous, but not required. Strong writing and presentation skills are also preferred. Applicants cannot have received their most recent degree more than three years before the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment.
