Immediate Need for a Post-Master’s or Post-Bachelor’s Research Associate in Software Development at Oak Ridge National Laboratory!

ORAU announces a Research Associate position in Software Development with the Environmental Sciences Division of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Recent Bachelor’s or Master’s graduates in Computer Science or a related discipline, with a strong background in software development are encouraged to apply for the position. The Associate will be involved in various software development and applied data management activities that support projects in Earth Sciences Informatics at ORNL.

Qualifications include: strong software development knowledge for building Web user interfaces, strong background in informatics and computer programming, working experience in Linux and/or Windows servers, experience in one or more programming languages (Java, JavaScript, Python, PHP, C, R, MatLab, SAS, IDL, Unix/Shell) and experience with databases (PostGreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server).

The position appointment is for two years, with possible long term position, depending on performance, mutual interest, and available funding. The salary will be competitive and the position includes benefits.

Summer Internship Program

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) Summer Internship Program will provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in projects focused on helping DNDO meet its mission of “implementing domestic nuclear detection efforts for a managed and coordinated response to radiological and nuclear threats, as well as integration of federal nuclear forensics programs.”
Ten-week research experiences will be offered at federal research facilities located across the U.S.
Undergraduate students receive a stipend of $600 per week plus travel expenses.
Graduate students receive a stipend of $700 per week plus travel expenses.
Areas of research: Engineering, earth and geosciences, computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological / life sciences, environmental science, and more.
U.S. citizenship required

Tasks include: developing, validating and editing financial reports, performing data entry, summarizing budget targets and payroll expenditures, reconciling financial systems, participating in Agency meetings related to financial management, assisting in coordinating and managing meetings, maintaining records, participating in conferences and seminars, and other related tasks.

2nd Annual Regenerative Medicine Summer School

Following the very successful First Annual Regenerative Medicine Summer School of 2014, the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine announces its Second Annual Regenerative Medicine Summer School June 1 – 5, 2015.   The program is designed to provide a week-long didactic and hands-on learning experience addressing the science and engineering related to the multidisciplinary field of regenerative medicine.  The program targets undergraduates enrolled in a science or engineering program, who will have completed their 3rd year of study. Exceptional candidates who will have completed their 2nd year of undergraduate study will also be considered.
